Client: Indy Department of Public Works (DPW)
Project Timeline: May 6, 2025 (Mobilization) – September 11, 2025 (Substantial Completion) – December 18, 2025 (Final Completion)
Improving pedestrian safety isn’t just infrastructure, it’s impact.
The Pedestrian Crash Focus Area 14B project targeted high-risk corridors across Indianapolis where safety concerns demanded immediate attention. The goal was clear: reduce vehicle speeds, improve visibility and create safer, ADA-compliant crossings for the community.
The Challenge
These areas had a history of pedestrian incidents, limited visibility and outdated infrastructure. Coordinating construction alongside overlapping DPW and Citizens Energy projects added complexity to scheduling, access and execution.
Our Role
Etica Group was the Project Manager and Construction Inspector, ensuring seamless communication and execution from start to finish.
Managed daily operations, documentation and coordination between DPW and INDOT
Utilized CIP and SiteManager to track progress, materials and pay estimates
Maintained consistent on-site presence to monitor work and engage directly with the public
The Solution
The project delivered critical safety enhancements, including:
Traffic calming measures to reduce speeds
ADA-compliant intersection upgrades
High-visibility signage, markings and crossings
Installation of Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) to alert drivers to pedestrian activity
The Impact
The result is a safer, more accessible and visually improved corridor for pedestrians and drivers alike. This will help prevent future incidents while enhancing the surrounding community.
Going Beyond the Scope
What set this project apart was the human element. Our team actively engaged with residents listening to concerns, answering questions and acknowledging the real experiences behind the data.
We also collaborated closely with adjacent contractors to overcome scheduling conflicts, maintaining progress without compromising safety or quality.
At Etica Group, we believe even the most disruptive projects should leave a positive, lasting impression—both in infrastructure and in community trust.
